With revenue from online sales still at over 50% higher in July than it was in February of 2020 it is clear that the COVID 19 lockdown has had a long term effect on the shopping habits of the nation, are you missing out on these potential sales by not having an online presence?
The Office of National Statistics (ONS) has provided figures that show that although lower than average for this time of year July, as the first full month of non-essential retail stores being open in the UK, has seen an increase in the value of sales of 4.4% compared to 3.6% in June.
With only a slight dip, in response to shops reopening, online sales have remained at more than 50% of all retail sales and have been instrumental in taking retail sales levels above pre-pandemic levels for the first time.
There could be many reasons why the UK shoppers are not wanting to get back on to the high street, be that “trusting” that is it safe to do so, not being able or not wanting to wear face coverings or it could be that they have simply found internet shopping to be more convenient for them. One thing is clear though that the rise in online sales has not been a “blip” on the radar but rather a shift in habits that have now become the new normal.
