Performance Max campaigns have always offered broad reach across Google’s network, from Search and Shopping to YouTube, Display, Maps, and more. But until now, advertisers had no real way of knowing which channels were really driving results. That has changed, and Google has now launched channel-level performance reporting. Don’t worry if you can’t see it yet, we think it’s still rolling out, so it’s only visible in some accounts.
Where to find the report
You’ll find the new Performance by Channel report under the “Insights” tab in your campaign. It breaks down key metrics like conversions, cost, impressions, and clicks across each Google channel, giving you a much clearer view of where your budget is going and what’s performing best.
How it helps
This means if YouTube is underdelivering, or if Shopping placements are quietly outperforming everything else, you’ll be able to see it and respond accordingly. The update also includes automated channel diagnostics, which flag things like missing location assets for Maps or creative coverage gaps for YouTube, helping you resolve performance issues quickly.
Google is also expanding asset-level reporting, offering detailed metrics beyond the basic “Best” or “Low” ratings. You can now see impressions, clicks, and conversions for individual headlines, images, and videos, making it easier to optimise your strategy.
At web2market, we’re already testing the new reporting tools in live client accounts, and the early impact is clear. You now have more transparency, better decision-making, and faster optimisation. Performance Max no longer needs to feel like a black box. These insights make it possible to rebalance budgets and reassess assets.
If your account hasn’t been updated yet, the rollout is happening in stages. Now is the perfect time to prepare. Review your asset coverage, ensure your product feeds are strong, and make sure your conversion tracking is clean and reliable.
